For his outstanding career as a coach & athlete, Shannyn J. Gillespie (Coach Shannyn) was inducted to these Halls of Fame: Illinois Wrestling Coaches & Officials Association, Eastern Wrestling League, Lock Haven University, & Evanston Township High School.
He enters his third season as Head Coach for Lakeland University Women’s Wrestling (WI), and past coach at: the U.S. Olympic Education Center (MI), Lincoln College (IL), the Overtime School of Wrestling (IL), & Homewood-Floossmoor High School (IL).
Coach Shannyn also coached for the USA Wrestling National Team Staff & the Mongolian Wrestling Federation (Strength & Conditioning Coach).
Coach Shannyn has an extensive background in High Performance Training & coaching teams at: 34 National Championships, 13 international tournaments & camps, 4 World Championships, & 1 Pan American Championship.
He has also coached individuals to: 29 National Championship Gold medals, 15 World or Pan American medals, 5 USA Wrestling Outstanding Wrestler Awards, 5 NJCAA All-Americans, 1 IHSA Silver medal, & 1 Olympic Bronze medal.
Coach Shannyn was also a U.S. Olympic Training Center resident athlete, an NCAA Division I All-American (3rd pl), Jr. National Runner-up, Greco-Roman State Champion, & IL (IHSA) State Champion.
Coach Shannyn’s primary focus will be on training and developing coaches and student athletes via the U.S. Olympic Committee’s “5 Stages to a Better Sport Experience”:

Stage 2 – Develop & Challenge
Stage 3 – Train & Compete
Stage 4 – Excel for High Performance, Participate, & Succeed
Stage 5 – Thrive & Mentor

Coach Shannyn and his wife Emily live in Chicago and have two college aged daughters Jazmyn & Kayla.
