Four Lynx wrestlers place at Wisconsin Open

On December 3, 2016 the Lincoln College (LC) Wrestling team wrestled at the Wisconsin Open at the University of Wisconsin Parkside in Somers, IL. The Lynx brought back four place winners; Tyree Overton (2nd), Christian Kanzler (3rd), Matt Kent (5th), and Darvell Flagg (6th).

Overton, an LC sophomore, won three matches on way to the championship finals, where he fell short earning the runner-up silver medal. Overton has now placed in 3 tournaments this season and mentioned “I got my offense going early and I was setting up shots and re-shots.”.

Kanzler, an LC freshmen who has now also placed at 3 tournaments so far this season, wrestled hard in a tough bracket winning 3rd place. Kanzler said, “My semi-final match didn’t go my way but you just got to battle back and take third, and that’s why I did.”

Kent, a LC sophomore, wrestled back tough and consistent to earn 5th place. Kent has placed in all 4 tournaments the Lynx have competed in this season so far.

Flagg, also a LC freshmen, wrestled hard at the Wisconsin Open and earned 6th place after close and tough matches plus placed at his first tournament. Flagg commented on what he did and what he needs to do to get better by saying “I feel like I wrestled hard and smart, but I need to work on my offense.”

Lynx Head Coach Daryl Thomas stated “I think the last two tournaments we have competed in are near the NJCAA National tournament (level) if not tougher with the Division I, II, III and NAIA talent present; I think our guys will be prepared in the end and that’s exactly what we are striving for and looking to do as we progress through our schedule.”

Thursday, December 8, 2016, the Lincoln College Lynx Wrestling team will have their first home dual of the season against Millikin University at 7:00 PM in the LC Lincoln Center.
